The city of Sandy Springs has taken another step towards the development of its City Center project with last month’s decision that announced Carter and Selig Enterprises as the project’s Master Developer. The project aims to give the city a meeting place that serves as the heartbeat of the community.

    Sandy Springs, which is one of the state’s newest cities, makes up part of the largest office market in metro Atlanta, with both UPS and Newell Rubbermaid having their headquarters here. With such a large percentage of the metro area’s population working in Sandy Springs, the city council desired to create a unique, vibrant, walkable area that is rich in the amenities that the community desires while allowing residents to live, shop and work closer together.

    The new Sandy Springs City Center will be located on a 14-acre tract of land bounded by Johnson Ferry Road, Mount Vernon Highway, Roswell Road and Sandy Springs Circle. The project will include a civic/cultural center, a mixed-used development with retail options, parking, green space and more.

    Within the new development, the city council also desires to introduce a new green space network that will accommodate a variety of activities and draw the development together with established communities in the area and existing open spaces.

    Currently, the city, the Master Developers, architect and landscape architect are working through a 90-day confirmation period that will help to finalize the vision for the City Center. The city council will host a special meeting on July 9 at 7 p.m. for a workshop session on the performing arts center feasibility study. This session will explore the options for including a potential performing arts center into the City Center’s master plan.
