Many homeowners are choosing to remodel their existing home instead of moving. They like their existing neighborhood, school system and neighbors and don’t want to uproot their lives. Often it is more cost effective to add on to an existing home and many, many options exist for ways to do this. According to Jay Cipriani with Cipriani Builders in Woodbury, NJ (one of our NAREE panelists today) the most popular remodel or home improvement options are:
- adding on to the master bedroom, incorporating a sitting area or expanding the master bath
- enhancing closet space with built-in closet systems or adding additional closet space
- numerous luxury upgrades such as pot fillers, warming drawers, wine coolers, heated floors, jacuzzi tubs, remote faucets and more.
Home improvement TV shows provide homeowners will tons of ideas and first hand product knowledge. When remodeling, most homeowners will decide to incorporate one or two luxury items into their home. We are seeing this same trend with new home buyers who are spending more time at builder’s selection studios choosing to personalize their home with upgraded fixtures, carpet, paint, sound, outdoor living elements and much more.
All of the product options on the market today can make the selection process much more time consuming. Make sure to allow ample time for visiting showrooms, visiting selection studios and working with interior designers. Time spent on the front end of a remodeling project or new construction equates to time and money saved later on. Take the time to do your homework!
