At the recent Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Installation and Awards Program, HomeAid Atlanta honored our volunteer of the year, Overhead Door Company. This award is presented to a group of HomeAid volunteers for their outstanding service, and this year’s winner donated extensive time and energy toward the success of a HomeAid Atlanta Care Day in 2012.

Overhead Door Company has now partnered with HomeAid on two major HomeAid Care Days.  In the fall of 2008, they helped prep a home for a major kitchen and bathroom renovation, by performing a demolition. Additionally, they cleaned the gutters and roof, dug a drainage ditch and built porch railings for this Decatur Cooperative Ministry home.

This past October, 14 of this group’s employees put forth an enormous effort during an intense care day at another Decatur Cooperative Ministry home.  They added new fascia board around the entire home, closing a gap that critters were getting in, as well as replaced rotten wood around the garage and front door.  They painted all of the following: fascia board, every window’s trim, the garage door, the side of home, front door, crawl space door, hand railings and concrete stoop.  They also repaired a hole in the brick, fixed the crawl space door and sealed the crawl space vents.  The yard, which desperately needed attention, received a major facelift.  With all these improvements, the old, rusty mailbox had to go and a new mailbox was installed.  Additionally, a member of this team volunteered to take all the yard trimmings and garbage away from the site.

Beth Vann-Turnbull from Decatur Cooperative Ministry says, “As a result of this care day, the house looks clean and bright, and the family living there can take pride in their temporary home and in their participation in this transitional housing program.”

Volunteers from this company have demonstrated a strong commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need through their ongoing support of HomeAid’s mission.

Congratulations again to Overhead Door Company for this honor, and we thank all of your employees for your time and dedication.
