For the beginning of the new year, co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick have teamed up with several Atlanta locals who are there to help guide Atlantans through the process of keeping their New Year’s resolutions, whether those are personal, financial or fitness-related. Today’s guest on the Around Atlanta edition of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio is Kristen Fricks-Roman, Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor and Family Wealth Advisor with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s services include financial planning, estate planning strategies, professional portfolio management, alternative investments, asset management, retirement planning, cash management and many other options. Fricks-Roman says many people want to better themselves and improve their budget when it comes to making financial resolutions, but many people aren’t familiar enough with a budget or even how much they are spending and what they are spending it on. She encourages anyone who wants to improve their budget to know what they are spending their money on, even if they simply keep a document detailing how much they spent and where.
In addition to tracking their budget, Fricks-Roman and the co-hosts discuss the importance of having an emergency fund. Whether it is needed for a lost job or having an important surgery, Fricks-Roman advises saving up around five to nine months of income in case the unpredictable happens.
Another important way Atlantans can improve their financial situation is to have a will and copies of rules and documents that say who beneficiaries are. It is also important to let a trusted family member know about keys to safety deposit or the location of the records, even if the location is a flash drive with all information about accounts and passwords to those accounts.
