Monte Hewett Homes, a longtime sponsor of HomeAid Atlanta and a 2014 Diamond Level Sponsor, is proud to have participated in the 13th annual Essentials for Young Lives Drive, which was the largest drive to date! Hosted by HomeAid Atlanta, the drive is an effort to collect essential baby items in an effort to provide aid to one of the fastest-growing segments of the homeless population – women and children.

This year’s Essentials for Young Lives Drive brought in nearly 150,000 items to help homeless and low-income babies and toddlers, which nearly doubled 2013’s 76,000 donated items.

Monte Hewett himself went on the company’s annual Costco diaper shopping trip last week, where he loaded up buggies full of diapers and other baby essentials. The items were then taken to one of the Drive’s drop-off locations, State Bank, where they were added to the growing pile of donations.

On Friday, a Delivery Day celebration was held at Genesis Shelter, which provides a place for homeless newborn babies under six months of age and their families to seek refuge during their time of need. Several speakers were on hand to discuss the impact HomeAid is having on Atlanta’s homeless population, and attendees were then given an exclusive tour of the Genesis Shelter.

Friday was also the day that several local UPS drivers donated their time to take all of the items collected in this year’s drive to homeless shelters all over the metro Atlanta area, ensuring that the items were received just in time for Mother’s Day.

Action Ministries was one of the many organizations that received some of the generous donations gathering during the Drive. “Thank you so much for the incredibly generous donation you made to Action Ministries Housing,” said Laura Rappold with the Action Ministries housing staff. “The diapers, wipes, baby food and crib will make a huge difference to our families as they work their way toward self-sufficiency. We are so honored that you included our organization in this fantastic project. We put everything on the shelves on Friday afternoon, and when I walked in this morning, more than half of it had already gone out to families in our programs. Thank you again for all you do- you make a huge difference!”
