Marketing and Public Relations Manager of Marietta Visitors Bureau and Welcome Center, Courtney Spiess in studio on today’s episode of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. Joined by co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, Spiess discusses the best parts of Marietta, including the several events that occur at historic Marietta Square, on today’s Around Atlanta segment of Radio.
Spiess moved to Atlanta from Columbus, Ohio about two years ago. She began her career in Georgia at a public relations agency. One of her many clients worked in tourism, the same industry she worked with while in college. Looking to get back into tourism, Spiess interviewed for a job with the Marietta Visitors Bureau and Welcome Center.
“I promote Marietta as a tourism destination,” said Spiess. “We promote the food scene, the art scene, museums, the history and more!”
The Marietta Visitors Bureau and Welcome Center is located right off Marietta Square. Housed in an old train depot, the Bureau and Welcome Center is in the middle of everything Marietta has to offer. The physical location of the Bureau and Welcome Center is mainly used as an information center. The organization is designed for people to come in to get brochures, maps, dining guides and any other collateral that could be helpful during a Marietta visit. The organization is also the most knowledgeable source of information for all things Marietta. Any and all questions about the historic city can be answered at the office.
Taste of Marietta is one of the many events that take place throughout the year at Marietta Square. This highly popular annual gathering always takes place on the last Sunday in April. The Taste of Marietta food festival is in its 27th year of operation and is always looking to add new food and fun segments. Last year, the festival welcomed a cooking demonstration stage. Taste of Marietta usually has around 75 unique restaurants present.
“The great thing about Taste of Marietta is it’s actually free to the public, so there are no entry fees or tickets,” said Spiess. “You pay at the booths for food. This is great because as families or individuals come along, they can mark their budgets for the day. Meaning it can be as extravagent or inexpensive as you choose.”
In addition to several food options, Taste of Marietta has various other activities for visitors to partake in. Live music is going on at all times on two separate stages. For families, there is a kid’s zone with lots of fun activities for younger children, including a bouncy house. The dedicated Taste of Marietta sponsors are also scattered around the festival with fun games and giveaways.
Marietta is great at offering events that last year-round. One of the favorites amongst locals is the Farmer’s Market. This weekly event takes place every single Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. From May through October, there is a second Farmer’s Market to take advantage of on Sundays.
