Laura Brown with BankSouth Named Mortgage Professional of the Year

Atlanta Real Estate Forum congratulates Laura Brown with BankSouth Mortgage for being named the 2020 Mortgage Professional of the Year at the 40th Annual OBIE Awards. Presented by the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council, the OBIE Awards are the premier awards given to those working in the Atlanta new home construction industry.

If you ask Laura Brown about her work at BankSouth Mortgage, she would probably tell you how she likes to help people reach their goal of homeownership but her ability to maintain her sales volume is impressive. Last year, Laura worked with 11 to 13 Rocklyn Homes communities and in 2020 will be working with around the same number as communities closeout and new ones open.

Laura has won many awards including the Chairman’s Award of Excellence in 2018 from BankSouth. The highly coveted Chairman’s Award of Excellence is reserved for a person whose leadership and individual contributions are essential to the sustainable success of the enterprise. She was also the 2018 No. 1 FHA loan originator in the state of Georgia, not an easy title.

As COVID-19 (coronavirus) affected mortgage loans beginning in February this year, the Cares Act passed in March, changed some of the programs that were available for lenders. Laura has a 0% default rate on her loans meaning that most, if not all, of her loan originations were approved.

Well-liked by her team of four years, she attributes them for their great work ethic and the team’s success. Laura is as ambitious as she is compassionate. She is dedicated to her clients and to the industry, as reflected in her June 2019 to June 2020 numbers of 348 closings with a dollar value of $70,916,715.

Service to and involvement in the community and industry include the following for Laura:

  • Toys for Tots
  • Angel Tree
  • HomeAid Atlanta with work projects at Phoenix Passing and Jerusalem House
  • United Way Hurricane Harvey relief
  • Lift Up Atlanta Thanksgiving meals
  • Light the Night
  • Coronavirus fundraising with VEO Here (veterans), United Way and The Giving Kitchen (supporting restaurant workers impacted by coronavirus)
  • Children’s Restoration Network food drive and food sorting for Thanksgiving
  • The Meal Bridge – Providing meals for frontline workers fighting coronavirus at Emory hospital
  • Operation Gratitude – Writing letters of support and thank you to frontline workers fighting coronavirus
