When I heard about HomeAid‘s signature fund raising event called Project Playhouse, memories of my favorite gift, the Little Tikes Playhouse, came flooding back. I remember spending hours in that miniature plastic blue house with its pink shutters and pink door and pretending to cook a meal for my grandparents or hosting a special tea party for my very best friends.
Project Playhouse takes this favorite childhood memory of mine and elevates it to a new level. Through building creative playhouses that have all the luxuries of million dollar homes, Project Playhouse raises funds to build transitional housing for temporarily homeless children, women, and men in Metro Atlanta.
Many people are involved in this great cause including some of Atlanta’s top businesses as well as premier builders, architects, and interior designers. The builders and designers spend months developing imaginative dream homes with all the features and amenities of a real house, such as granite counter tops, chandeliers, hardwood floors and flat screen TVs.
It is plain to see that the designers reconnected with their childhood to create these themed homes which inspire and enchant children’s minds. Past themes have ranged from a Chick-fil-A Dwarf House, Nautical Nantucket Cottage and an Atlanta Braves house. This year Atlanta Home Aid will put on the 6th annual Project Playhouse from September 19th through October 10th.
This year HomeAid is thrilled to announce that Project Playhouse will take place on multiple sites. So far the proposed sites are Terminus in Buckhead and The Avenue Forsyth. A special edition playhouse build by Georgia Tech students will be displayed on campus during the fall football season.
It’s not too late to get involved with Project Playhouse. Companies can still register to become an event sponsor. There are many different sponsorship levels to satisfy a variety of budgets. Event partnerships are also being offered this year for companies providing in-kind donations of services or materials directly supporting Project Playhouse. The deadline for sponsor and partner registration is July 20 so there is still plenty of time to check out this worthy cause.
