You’ve heard it said often: Being a parent is the toughest job you’ll ever have. For those without a home, the job is not just difficult; it’s a daily battle for survival. In fact, the average age of a homeless person is 9 years old. In Georgia, 42 percent of homeless children are under the age of 6. So, this year while you’re out searching for Atlanta events for a fun-filled day to celebrate your mom, why not take a moment to honor Mother’s Day by helping homeless mothers and their children:  Join the Essentials for Young LivesSM Drive.

The Essentials for Young LivesSM Drive is HomeAid Atlanta’s annual Atlanta community service campaign to collect essential items for homeless infants and toddlers. Anyone one can help. From business and community organizations to individuals, every donation counts.

Essential items needed include diapers sizes 1 and up, baby wipes, baby food, formula and other baby products such as bottles, pacifiers, lotion and soap. Please make sure that all items are new and in their original packaging.

Collecting items is easy: Select a contact person within your organization who can promote the drive and determine the dates you plan to collect the items. Official collection dates are April 25 through May 2, but you can start promoting the drive whenever you’re ready. Finally, select a drop-off location in your building and provide a box or bin for donors. Make sure to place it in a convenient location.

Donated items are due to the HomeAid Atlanta office no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3. However, there are drop off locations throughout the metro Atlanta area for your convenience. Visit the HomeAid Atlanta website for a complete list of locations.

If you’re planning on donating to the Essentials for Young LivesSM Drive, then let us know. We’d love to hear from you.
