Visitors at the Gwinnett County Public Library have access to a plethora of resources that enrich and inspire the community. Gwinnett County Public Library Marketing and Communications Manager Dee Driver joins co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick on this week’s Around Atlanta segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio to discuss the Library’s many programs and activities.
With 15 locations throughout the county and up to 95 programs a day across all locations, Gwinnett County Public Library offers something for essentially everyone.
“We’re more than just a library, we’re a community hub,” Driver said. “We’re the place where you gather to learn about your community, yourself and to better yourself.”
Librarians no longer sit behind a desk; they immerse themselves with the visitors. Gwinnett County Public Library and its offerings go beyond typical storytime and book exchanges with resume classes, career online high school and more.
In terms of what is available for high school students at Gwinnett County Public Libraries, according to Driver, one of the most popular annual programs is the Teen Film Challenge. This program allows teens to make their own film and edit and produce it at the library. Entries range from 2-minutes to 30-minutes and have even had celebrity judges participate.
Also popular, the fashion design program offers a 6-week Fashion-Runway-type course followed by a finale fashion show with participant-designed clothing on display and celebrity judges.
Perfect for teens and adults on the go, Gwinnett County Public Library also offers digital apps for iOS and Android Devices. This collection of apps, all accessible with an active library card, offer the ability to download and read ebooks, learn a new language, review upcoming events, extend rental due dates and more.
Additionally, Gwinnett County Public Library offers Career Online High School, a program for adults that have aged out of the public school system (typically 21+) and want to earn their high school diploma. Taking anywhere from 1 year to 18 months, the most recent class contained 17 graduates.
The number of programs and resources available to Gwinnett County residents from the Library is beyond impressive.
