As Halloween quickly approaches, there are many ways to get into the spirit of the holiday. For some metro Atlanta residents, carving a pumpkin and picking out a costume is the perfect way to prepare for Halloween. For others, watching scary movies may offer just the right amount of spook and suspense. But for the bravest of those celebrating Halloween, there is nothing more exciting than feeling the bone-chilling fear that comes from attending a haunted house. Here is our list of the best haunted attractions in metro Atlanta.

Is there a link between unexplained incidents, disturbing behavior and mysterious disappearances and the collection of demonic artifacts quarantined below Atlantic Station? Come find out, if you dare, at Containment, Atlanta’s newest haunted attraction. Tickets are $25 per person, and the attraction is open from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 7 p.m. until midnight or 2 a.m. on Fridays and 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Saturdays until Nov. 3.

An unusual cycle of terrors is unlocked at night as the moon phases in and out this month. The farmer knows that when October starts with a new moon, new spirits will come to the trees. These spirits and creatures are so horrible that even the animals keep away from them. Unexplained occurrences and sounds make the farm animals restless, and the farmer knows to lock them up before the moon rises to keep each of them safe until the sun comes up. Do you dare go out after the farmer locks the doors and turns off the lights? Remember, only the trees will hear you scream at Fear the Woods in Stockbridge. Fear the Woods tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children 10 and under. The attraction is open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. until midnight and Sundays from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Netherworld Haunted House, located in Norcross and named one of the top 10 haunted houses in America, features two spooky options for those who dare to enter. Experience the eternal darkness that awaits you between worlds as the Dead Ones have returned to wreak havoc on the Earth and destroy everything that lives. Or, visit the Boogeyman where six innocent people are trapped in comas and unable to escape a nightmare world of their deepest, darkest fears. Ticket prices range from $20 to $30 per person, and hours range from 7 p.m. until midnight until Nov. 3.

Georgia is deeply rooted in legends and lore that is passed down through generations, and much of this folklore is filled with pure terror and horrifying tales. Some say that evil can take many forms, such as tortured souls, demons and the undead. Legends of this evil are buried in fables and tales of our past. But legends never die. At Folklore, you’ll be greeted by creatures you only thought existed in another world, but they are just your nightmares crawling to life right before your eyes. Can you handle the terror? Located in Dallas and open from 7:30 p.m. until midnight Fridays through Sundays, tickets are $22 per person.

Little Elizabeth Rose was the spoiled only child of the wealthy Creymore Funeral Home proprietors, who never knew exactly what to do when she threw one of her famous temper tantrums. One night, her family found out she had been stealing the family treasures off of the dead that passed through the doors of Creymore. Once confronted about her crimes, Elizabeth stormed from her family’s home and out into the rainy night, where she ran until she came to a stop in the middle of a train trestle. Before she could react, a train was upon her and in desperation, Elizabeth flung herself off of the trestle into the deep, dark depths below, where the stolen family treasures and coins drug her further down to her watery demise. Now, the ghost of Elizabeth Rose walks along the waters below the tracks and awaits those who dare to visit the site. Creepers Haunted House, located in Smyrna, is open from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. on weeknights and 7 p.m. until midnight on weekends. Tickets are $20 on weeknights and $25 on weekends.

Urban Horror Tours has taken tours through some of the most haunted attractions in the city. Now, they are leading a tour into the ruins of what is believed to be the legendary headquarters and crime scene of the infamous TORTUREco. Located in the Old Fourth Ward, the building was set ablaze in a raid conducted by the FBI. During the raid, a TORTUREco member took a flame thrower to the facility and horribly injured and killed officers, innocent victims and even some of their own. However, rumors swirl that say a few members of the group involved in human trafficking conducted maniacal experiments on human subjects that still continue in the hopes of building a biomechanical army to get revenge for their fallen. Now, an army is said to be rising from below the wreckage of the TORTUREco headquarters. Will you be among the first to brave the underground heart of this urban legend at Chambers of Horror? Held at The Masquerade in Atlanta, the themed haunted attraction is adults only, with no one under the age of 18 admitted. The attraction is open from 8 p.m. until midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 8 p.m. until 1 am. on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets range from $17 to $45 per person.

Last year, strange sights were reported of secret societies, human sacrifices and the dead rising from the ground deep in the dark woods. No records remain of the events, but a few of the survivors and researchers have returned to the site to search the 100 room abandoned motel and four acres of woods to learn what really happened on those nights. Join the group, and seek the truth behind the Order of the Grave to find out what evil makes the dead rise at Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse. Open Thursday through Saturday nights in October, tickets range from $20 to $60 per person. Parking is just $3.

At Paranoia Haunted House in Roswell, there is no true fear without tears. Beware, because they are going to make you cry! Visit The Underground, where you will enter an abandoned city through its subway system in search of cannibals that disappeared from the local hospital. Or, head deep into the farmlands of northern Georgia, where you have been sent to confront a man who has been suspected of murder while attempting to play God and create a new species through human-animal hybridization. Will you step foot on the farm? Tickets to Paranoia range from $20 to $40 per person, and the attraction is open Thursday through Sundays as well as the entire week of Halloween.
