According to the latest HousingPulse Survey from Campbell/Inside Mortgage Finance, first-time homebuyers represented the fastest growing segment of home purchases for February with 34. 5 percent of home purchase transactions. This increase improves upon the January gains and boosts this segment from the four-year survey low of 32.9 percent in December 2012.

Further encouraging statistics for the first-time buyer demographic is that the indicator of future home purchases hit a four-year survey high of 66.4 percent in February. Any score above a 50 percent reflects an increase in home shopping traffic.

While first-time buyers are on the rise, current homeowners looking to make a move dropped to the lowest market share recorded since last June at 42.5 percent. However, these buyers seem to be poised to boost a strong spring market with 66.4 percent planning on future home purchases.
