If you are looking for some great ways to end your summer, look no further. Georgia’s state parks have several events for you, your family and even your pets to be a part of as we end another fun-filled summer. To name a few, here are some events in the metro Atlanta area at Georgia’s state parks:

Dog Day in the Park

Do you love spending time with your dog and having fun? Then from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, come out to Panola Mountain State Park in Stockbridge for Dog Day in the Park. Spend some time with Friends of Georgia DNR Search and Rescue Team, Lifeline Animal Project and more as we enjoy the day with our dogs. You will have the chance to go through a guided dog walk, canine obstacle courses, K-9 demonstrations, games and more with your family and dogs. Pet adoptions will be available as well. Moonlight Mountain Hike

Nothing is better than enjoying a sunset over Atlanta on top of Panola Mountain. Join in on the fun on a ranger-led hike up the mountain at Panola Mountain State Park starting at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 13. After the sunset, the moonlight will guide the hikers down to a lakeside campfire where you can enjoy some s’mores around the fire. Geology Hike

For all those who love to learn about rocks and our Earth’s history, be sure to come out to the Geology Hike at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs on Saturday, August 13. From 10 a.m. to noon, Geologist John Johnston will lead a moderate two-mile hike around the park. Along the way, he will identify and explain rocks and how they formed over time. By the time you are done, you will feel like a geologist yourself! There will also be a visit to the Civil War-era New Manchester Mill along Sweetwater Creek. The cost to go on this scenic and informative tour is $6. To find out more about the hike, call 770-732-5871.
