Dan Carroll, media relations director of Dragon Con, joins co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick on this week’s Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio: Around Atlanta edition to promote Atlanta’s biggest pop culture festival.

Dragon Con is celebrating 30 years of bringing science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music and film to Atlanta and becoming the world’s largest multi-media, popular culture convention!

This popular event kicks off September 2 at 10 a.m. and lasts through the Labor Day weekend around the clock, ending on September 5 at 5 p.m. For those that just can’t wait, professional wrestling takes place at what Carroll describes as “nerd New Year’s eve” at the Hyatt Regency tonight, September 1 at 7 p.m.

With over 75,000 people in attendance, Dragon Con occupies five hotels: the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Atlanta Hilton, Sheraton Atlanta, Atlanta Marriot Marquis and the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta.

Dragon Con was the first event of its kind to accommodate such a variety of interests by combining fandoms and genres into one a single convention.

Cosplay, the act or practice of wearing costumes to portray characters from fiction, especially from manga, animation and science fiction, is a staple of Dragon Con – nearly everyone is dressed up in some form or fashion and Dragon Con has even been dubbed America’s premier costuming event, according to Carroll. Dragon Con has evolved to be an event for everyone and serves as a stage for expression.

“Dragon Con is fun, safe and inclusive,” said Carroll. “Whatever you are, whoever you are and whatever you’re bringing, you’re going to find a place of openness, acceptance and fun at this family friendly event.”

Many attendees would agree there is simply not enough time in the weekend to enjoy every aspect of Dragon Con. To make scheduling easier, DragonCon.org has posted a complete list of events as well as a downloadable pocket program. Here you will find information about the Annual Dragon Con Parade, live performances and DJs, Masquerade night and more.

For those that can’t attend, but want a glimpse into the fun that is Dragon Con, The parade will broadcast on CW Atlanta on September 3 at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Another popular option for keeping up-to-date on all Dragon Con happenings is the Dragon Con app, available in the Apple and Google Play stores. This app allows users to create a schedule of events at this pop culture festival they’d like to attend to not miss a thing – you can even share your calendar with your friends!
