Atlanta is in for a real treat this month. Celebrating its 40th anniversary and comeback after the 2008 recession, The Big Apple Circus is in town and showing at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Alpharetta as an exciting recreation of the classic big top circus. On today’s Around Atlanta episode of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio, co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick are joined by Ammed Tuniziani and Estefani Evans Tuniziani of The Flying Tunizianis trapeze troupe.
The circus features several exciting acts, including Nik Wallenda of the legendary Wallenda high-wire balancing family, who will attempt a never-before-seen seven-person pyramid on the high wire, acrobatic roller skating from Dandino, juggling acts from Gamal Garcia Tuniziani, brother of Ammed Tuniziani, The Flying Tunizianis, a clown act and more.
The Flying Tunizianis began as a Venezuelan trapeze troupe of Ammed and his four brothers. Today, Estefani, Ammed’s wife, has joined the troupe as a featured flyer. Their families have carried on the tradition of circus performance for several generations and this inspires the pair to continue the tradition and make it better. This year, for The Big Apple Circus’ comeback and 40th anniversary, the circus scouted the world for the best of the circus acts and found The Flying Tunizianis, who perform the seldom-attempted quadruple somersault trick in this year’s show.
Ammed comes from three generations of circus performers and Estefani comes from five generations. The circus life is very special to them because they get to travel with their two children as a family. Ammed and Estefani themselves grew to love the circus by growing up around it when their parents were circus performers. They enjoy traveling the United States and the world, putting their kids in school in each place and experiencing each of the cultures.
Since 1977, The Big Apple Circus has showcased the best of circus performance under its classic big top. The circus is dedicated to showing off the artistry and intimacy of the traditional European one-ring circus, as opposed to the American three-ring circus. The circus is on display at the Verizon Amphitheatre until February 25 and the audience can attend a meet-and-greet after the show. The two-hour show with a 25-minute intermission is not to be missed!
