Today’s Around Atlanta episode of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio showcases the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, happening now all over the city. Brennen Dicker, chair of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and general manager of SIM International’s Atlanta branch, joins co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick to discuss the film festival and its diverse offerings.

The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival opened on January 25 and continues through February 15. The film began in 2000 with the help of the American Jewish Committee and welcomed around 1,500 attendees. Today, the festival has grown into something much bigger, welcoming over 50,000 guests from all over the world each year, both Jewish and non-Jewish. The film festival is not only a showing of films over a few weeks, either. Year-round, the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival is active throughout the community and on college campuses, hosting additional screenings and festivities.

“AJFF is a cinematic exploration of the Jewish experience. It explores, the history, the culture, but it really does touch on many different aspects, not only in Jewish life, but also many of the things people can relate to, in general,” says Dicker. This year’s festival will host 190 screenings of more than 70 films from 27 countries. The film festival extends to seven different venues throughout Atlanta, so wherever you are, you can catch a screening at the Cobb Energy Centre, Regal Perimeter Pointe, Regal Atlantic Station, Regal Hollywood 24, The Springs Cinema, UA Tara Cinemas and the Woodruff Arts Center.

Dicker’s picks for the films attendees can’t miss this year are “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story,” “Sammy Davis, Jr.: I’ve Gotta Be Me,” “The Boy Downstairs,” “Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel,” and, of course, “Schindler’s List,” celebrating its 25th anniversary. You can find a program guide, screening schedule and venue list here. In addition to the film screenings, many of the directors and people who inspired the stories will be available for Q & A sessions and guest speaking sessions. Sixteen filmmakers will be attending the festival from all over the world: Israel, Budapest, Germany, the United States and more.
