Last time, you heard about the Artful Expression trend, which relies heavily on pattern and color to express artistry. Our next trend, Discreet Luxury, relies heavily on texture, surface design and material to convey craftsmanship.

Discreet Luxury is simultaneously luxurious, elegant and inviting.

The color palette conveys the mood of the theme by pairing rich, sumptuous orange-touched reds and browns with mossy greens and golden yellows. Copper browns could also be translated as a metallic.

In the past few seasons, marble returned to contemporary design.  ]More recently, however, marble trends have expanded beyond the classic material and become a playful graphic and surface treatment effect. Whether experimenting with the natural patterns of wood or creating marbling effects through paint or pattern, this trend feels fresh for 2013.

Faux painting may have faded away in the past year, but there is no doubt it’s back in an all new way. Experiment with faux painting that looks like marble or rich grains in natural stones.
