Once you’ve found that perfect home and settled in, celebrate with family and friends. If you plan on having a dinner party, here are some tips for creating an easy centerpiece that can be used for any occasion.
Use natural items from your backyard – Throwing a natural touch into your centerpiece can add a splash of color. Fill glass hurricanes with candles, moss and twigs and surround them with small votives for extra sparkle. With fall approaching, pumpkins, nuts and fresh gourds can be used for the table. Potted succulents are also a good choice for providing a green element to the décor since they are inexpensive and low maintenance.
Use tall items for dramatic effect – Some people like to use tall items in their centerpieces. However, these items can sometimes get in the way of conversation (especially if they block one side of the table from the other.) To create a dramatic look while preserving the view, add tall blooming branches to a slender vase, minimizing the horizontal space that your centerpiece occupies.
Combine fruit and flowers – A good centerpiece should smell as good as it looks. Add color and scent with fresh lemon or lime slices and blooming perennials. To do this, simply stack one vase inside of another and slide ¼-inch-thick citrus slices upright into the space between the two containers. The scents should last two to three days, so be sure and replace them between gatherings.
Take advantage of your collections – Many of us have collected various odds and ends over the years. If you’re looking for a way to utilize that collection of marbles, corks or other random item, use them as the base for a floral centerpiece. Fill a large, clear hurricane or vase two-thirds of the way up with small items, and arrange your favorite seasonal flowers for a simple, unique centerpiece.
By using the aforementioned tips, you’ll be on your way to creating elegant centerpieces in no time.
