Finding a new home in the metro area can be a daunting task, given the vast selection buyers can choose from. For Whitney Outlaw, having a list of precisely what he wanted not only narrowed the field but also led to his matching all those requirements with a new house at Riverside Walk.
This intimate project of seven single-family homes is underway in Atlanta’s northwest neighborhood, where it’s a convenient commute to Buckhead, Midtown or Vinings. That accessibility was one of the top priorities Outlaw listed.
“I’ve been living in Midtown for more than two years, since I moved here from Virginia,” he said. “I knew once I found a base in Atlanta, I’d want to buy a house. So when I started a new job in January, I started looking online and with an agent. I already had a list of place I did not want to live, and I knew I wanted a three-bedroom home with a two-car garage.”
Outlaw was also guided by his price range. At Riverside, the traditional houses on quarter-acre lots start in the low $300,000s, making them some of the most affordable new properties in the city’s hot intown market.
“I knew that the northwest area inside the Perimeter was one of the best places to fit my price range,” said Outlaw. “At the same time, it’s an upcoming neighborhood, not one that’s already established. I work in finance, so I thought a lot about getting in when the area while it was relatively new to build up some equity.”
Even though his house was in the framing stage when he first saw it, Outlaw knew it was a match for his criteria.
“It had the bedrooms and attached garage I wanted, and I really love the floor plan,” he said. “The first floor living room flows into the dining area and kitchen; it’s very open. I can be in the kitchen cooking and still be entertaining guests in the living room.”
The master bedroom is exceptionally large, spanning what could be two bedrooms in other designs. “It’s humongous!” said Outlaw with a laugh.
Despite its pluses, Outlaw was wary about buying his first house from the framing stage.
“I didn’t really know what the finished product would look like, and that made me nervous,” he admitted. “But I went over there every week to see the progress they made, and I feel good about it. And it was great to be able to pick out the flooring, counter tops, cabinets, tile in baths, trim, colors, carpets – everything just as I wanted it.”
Riverside’s three floor plans give buyers options of between three or four bedrooms, master baths with separate showers and garden tubs, master bedrooms with tray ceilings and basements. All designs feature a covered porch entries and a rear patio.
Not far from the community is the Chattahoochee Trail Park, a scenic stretch for walking and jogging alongside the river.
