Managing Partner Dean de Freitas with Macallan Construction and Executive Director Trisha Gross with Chastain Horse Park join the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to share Chastain Horse Park’s history, renovation updates, sponsorship opportunities and more. De Freitas and Gross join host Carol Morgan on the Around Atlanta segment.
One of the last remaining urban horse parks in the United States, Chastain Horse Park has been a part of the Atlanta community and metro landscape for almost 90 years. The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is used for various equestrian-related purposes, serving children, teens and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. The organization also provides able-bodied programming in the form of boarding and educational opportunities.
Gross said, “Our therapeutic program is our north star. It is our purpose and our mission. Within our program, we provide therapy services [including physical, occupational and speech therapy] all using the horses!”
The organization also offers adaptive horsemanship programming and works with organizations such as Wellspring Living, the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Outpatient Rehabilitation program, the Wounded Warrior Project and more!
Part of the Macallan Group, Macallan Construction is a midsized commercial contractor with 20 years of experience and a diverse portfolio, including work with municipal projects, historic restorations, adaptive reuse, higher education constructions, senior living development, interior renovations and more. Focused on the needs of the client to ensue the project successfully meets those needs, Macallan Construction provides a full range of services to bring sophisticated management and development to smaller clients that regularly escape the radar of larger builders and contractors.
De Freitas said, “We believe they ought to be served just as well as the bigger clients.”
Operating on property owned by the City of Atlanta, Chastain Horse Park serves a broad range of individuals throughout Georgia. The organization’s barns are nearing 25 years in age and no longer benefit Chastain Horse Park and its mission as it lacks the structure needed to conduct the various programs. Other problems include regular barn flooding, an absence of office space and more.
The 15-acre property will experience the removal and replacement of all three existing barn structures, starting with the construction of a brand-new barn to kickstart the transition into the new age! With many animals to consider and the inability to suspend programming, Macallan Construction, fortunately, has experience in the horse world and understands the delicate nature of this project.
The updated facility will include clinical spaces, vocational areas, a volunteer center with heating and air conditioning, a locker zone, office space as well a brand-new boarding barn and practice arena.
