WELL Health-Safety Rating provides businesses COVID-19 safety rating

The International WELL Building Institute recently announced its intention to utilize an evidence-based, third-party rating system for facilities and buildings, the WELL Health-Safety Rating. The rating system is designed to tell potential occupants and customers how well a building protects from the transmission of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

The new rating system can be used to measure all different types of property, including office space, retail locations, restaurants, schools, hotels, sports and entertainment areas, industrial sites, movie theaters and more. WELL Health-Safety Rating offers a series of protocols and guides to help management and operational teams use and maintain their space with maximum safety. The rating system is another step and verification to ensure the well-being of employees, customers, visitors and other personnel. This system incorporates maintenance protocols and emergency plans to enhance the health and safety of everyone involved.

The new WELL Health-Safety Rating uses insights and findings from the original WELL Building Standard, the foremost standard for advancing health and well-being in the world. In addition to these standards, the rating system will also utilize the International WELL Being Institute Task Force. This task force is composed of over 500 experts in various relevant fields including public health, medicine, design, real estate, government and education.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is good for one year and can be earned annually to reflect the current state of a facility. To enroll, interested parties must sign up for a WELL Health-Safety Rating, provide the requested documentation reflecting intent and submit all required forms and data once qualifications are met. Once these steps are complete, a facility will earn either a pass or fail. If a facility meets the standards, it can begin promoting as a certified WELL Health-Safety Rating organization. This lets others know that the area is keeping people safe from the spread of germs and infection at a high standard of operation.
