Today’s guest on the Around Atlanta edition of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio is Amy Smith, owner of Mad Momma Gourmet and board member for the Brookhaven Farmers Market. Interviewed by co-hosts Todd Schnick and Carol Morgan, Amy is on-hand to talk about this year’s market, which started with a bang in April, as well as the delectable soup offerings from her company.

Mad Mama Gourmet offers artisan, cream-free, gluten-free soups. Amy and her family produce 40 gallons of soup at a time in a share kitchen called Prep Altanta, which features more than 65 food artisans, plus food trucks and caterers. This space is a very cost-effective way to start a food-based business, and has been the perfect incubator for Amy’s company. She travels throughout the city providing hot soups frozen at multiple markets.

Amy’s company is just one of 42 vendors at the Brookhaven Farmers Market, the largest number of vendors that it’s ever had! The market has continued to grow by leaps and bounds in its five-year history, and that has caused it to move several times as it outgrew its space. Currently, the farmers market is held every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon in the parking lot of University Baptist Church in the heart of Brookhaven across from the fire station.

The Brookhaven Farmers Market offers a variety of opportunities for involvement, from applying to be a vendor (there is currently a wait list due to the popularity of the market!), being a weekly or monthly volunteer, sponsoring the market, or just attending to purchase items from the wide variety of vendors.

Designed to provide the surrounding community with a reliable source for locally and sustainably produced food and artisan products, the Brookhaven Farmers Markets features original vendors such as West Wind Farms, the first certified organic farms in the United States.

The Brookhaven Farmers Market is open every Saturday now through December 10, 2016 from 9 a.m. until noon. It is located at 1375 Fernwood Circle, at the corner where Fernwood meets Dresden Drive. For more information on the market, listen to the podcast above, and then visit www.BrookhavenFarmersMarket.com.
