The Council Chair of the Year award honors outstanding leadership at the council level. The award recognizes achievement in the areas of education and membership development within the local council. The 2010 Council Chair of the Year is Betsy L. Sheppard.
Betsy Sheppard has more than 28 years of real estate marketing and advertising experience. Her extensive understanding of the housing industry began with The Hilton Head Company and evolved within an Atlanta-based marketing firm specializing in real estate for developers and builders throughout the Southeast. In 1987, Betsy co-founded advertising firm Mabry, Sheppard & Company. In 1999, Betsy launched B. Sheppard Consulting after a successful tenure as vice president of marketing for Northside Realty, which had been a client of her earlier advertising firm.
Betsy’s company joined the Greater Atlanta HBA in 2004, and she individually has been a member of all the association’s councils. Betsy currently serves as chair of the Atlanta 50+ Housing Council. She oversees all the council’s activities and its budget and personally contributes to the 50+ Facebook page and helps promote council events and activities.
Betsy is also a charter member of the HBA’s newest council, the Green Building Council, and she is serving as the co-chair of its Communications Committee. Betsy has been instrumental in getting the Green Building Council’s promotional efforts up and running, including launching the council’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages and its blog, as well as creating the council logo and writing promotional press releases about council activities.
Additionally, Betsy volunteered her time and design expertise to create a new logo for the Remodelers Council, and she has been involved with the HBA’s official charity, HomeAid Atlanta, for several years. She has generously volunteered as a member of HomeAid’s Marketing Committee, which she chaired in 2008. Betsy’s company has also supported HomeAid’s annual signature fundraiser, Project Playhouse, and she has participated in HomeAid’s Angel Tree, helping provide holiday gifts to local homeless families.
Betsy and her company have received several OBIE Awards and national awards recognizing her for her marketing expertise, and she speaks to builders and remodelers nationwide about marketing to active adult home buyers.
In her spare time, Betsy enjoys playing with her four rescue dogs, rooting for her favorite college football team and spending time with her family and friends.
Betsy is a talented, creative and enthusiastic leader who is always willing to lend her time and expertise to help her fellow members and the HBA as a whole. She serves with a positive attitude and gets the job done. The HBA is proud to recognize Betsy Sheppard as the 2010 Council Chair of the Year. Congratulations, Betsy!
