Warm weather, friendly small towns, tight-knit communities and Southern charm make Atlanta one of the most popular home locations for retirees. Low cost of living and getting more for your money are also big selling factors for active adults looking for a place to settle.
For older home buyers looking for the ideal place to live once they’ve decided to move to Atlanta, there is a plethora of options. In addition to many residential areas intown to choose from, there is a vibrant retirement community in the city that offers features desirable to the active adult, such as included lawn maintenance, gated and guarded community access, community activities, nursing care and more. Here we profile the top five retirement communities according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
The largest retirement community in Atlanta is Village at Deaton Creek by Del Webb, an industry leader in retirement communities. Located in Hoschton, Georgia, Village at Deaton Creek is one hour north of Atlanta and is home to 1,780 residents. The community provides residents with numerous clubs and social groups, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, clubhouse, 24-hour guarded gatehouse and lawn maintenance, and a full-time activities director is on staff to plan community events.
Next up is Sun City Peachtree by Del Webb, a retirement community located in Griffin, Georgia. More than 1,000 residents live in this golf course community. In addition to a full-time lifestyle director, the community includes lawn maintenance and has a clubhouse, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and a sports complex.
Soleil Laurel Canyon is number three on the list. Located in Canton, Georgia, this community is home to 1,044 active adult and independent residents and is just 40 miles from downtown Atlanta. Soleil Laurel Canyon truly spoils its residents with amenities like a 28,000 square foot clubhouse, a gourmet teaching kitchen (they even have their own cookbook!), a fitness center and aerobics studio, a performing arts theater, card rooms, arts and crafts workshop and a full-time lifestyle team to plan events and parties for the residents.
Christian City Inc. is next. This community is located in Union City, Georgia and houses 594 independent, continuing care and retirement residents. Because this community provides added services such as independent living, nursing and rehabilitation and memory support, the annual fees are a bit higher. There are also options for housing subsidies to ease the cost of living.
Finally, Park Springs in Stone Mountain is home to 549 continuing care and retirement residents. The community provides dining service, fitness and wellness programs, educational and cultural programs, home maintenance, lawn care, security, assisted living and memory care.
