Newsweek has published their annual list of the 1, 500 top U.S. high schools, and schools in Georgia make up 51 of them. It’s really a great time for Newsweek to release these rankings because we are just now at the beginning of summer. Many people are looking to relocate and school districts are going to be a big part of the final decision on where to move. You can move now and be settled into your new home before school starts in August. So, the big question is which school districts do you need to be looking into. Here are the top 10 high schools in Georgia, their county and what their ranking was on the big list:

  1. Walton – Cobb – 90
  2. North Gwinnett – Gwinnett – 212
  3. Campbell – Cobb – 213
  4. Chamblee Charter – Dekalb – 215
  5. Riverwood – Fulton – 223
  6. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet – Richmond – 278
  7. Milton – Fulton – 307
  8. Lakeside – Columbia – 309
  9. Northview – Fulton – 311
  10. Norcross – Gwinnett – 316

Only two of these schools are not located with the metro Atlanta area: Davidson Fine Arts Magnet and Lakeside (both of which are in and around Augusta). So we have got eight out of the ten best schools in the state located in the Atlanta area, giving you a plethora of great school districts in a myriad of locations. So, the next question is where do you want to live?

Each county and city has their own unique flare to offer homeowners and you need to find what is right for you and your family.

For example – living in the North Gwinnett high school district is a great option. Not only is this the #2 school in the state, it is located in Suwanee, which was ranked by Money Magazine as one of the top 10 places to live nationwide in 2007. Suwanee offers convenience to the many dining and shopping destinations of the Mall of Georgia and Discover Mills. Plus, all of the entertainment options of the Gwinnett arena are just down the street. Offering more of a small town feel, Suwanee has a quaint downtown with Town Center park that hosts many events, including the summer series “Cinema Under the Stars.” When it comes to family living, Suwanee is a perfect choice.

If looking for new homes in Suwanee, Bowen Family Homes builds beautiful homes at McGinnis Reserve. Homes are priced from the mid $300’s and the community features a 20 acre lake with walking trails, neighborhood clubhouse, pool, mushroom play fountain, tennis courts and neighborhood parks.

Whereas, on the Northwest side of Atlanta is where you’ll find the #3 school Campbell. Located in a completely opposite direction of Suwanee, the city of Smyrna has its own characteristics to offer homeowners. Of course, Smyrna is located right on the perimeter, which makes commutes to Atlanta quick and easy. Since the addition of the Cobb Performing Arts Center, performances from the Atlanta ballet and the Atlanta Opera are basically in your backyard. And, Smyrna has its own unique nightlife, mostly centered around Market Village, that has become a favorite destination among Atlanta residents. Smyrna is a great option for families, especially families with teenagers, because there is such an eclectic variety of things to do.

For Cobb County new homes in the Campbell High School district, look no further than Riley’s Walk from Monte Hewett Homes. Riley’s Walk is directly across the street from Market Village, giving you convenient access to great shopping, dining and fun. These craftsman-style homes are priced from the mid $400’s and are built to EarthCraft House standards, which will reduce your monthly utility bills.

As you can see, each school district has something different to offer, and you need to find what suits you and  your family the best. Regardless, it’s nice to see so many schools from Georgia make the list of the best high schools in the nation.
