This week’s Around Atlanta guest is Julie Dewald, the market manager with Room & Board, a design showroom that offers the best of modern design and American craftsmanship. This family-owned business has been around more than 30 years and aims to help each customer create a beautiful home that they love to live in.
Room & Board currently has showrooms throughout the U.S., including an Atlanta showroom on Howell Mill Road. Here, customers will find a 35,000 square foot, three-story space that houses contemporary furniture, accessories and more than 300 fabric options that allow customers to design the space of their dreams.
In addition to being a retail shop, Room & Board offers customization options and design services for those buyers who need additional help deciding how to create the ultimate living space. The design associates at each showroom can assist customers in finding their true style and creating a space that reflects it. In addition, the company offers room planning services that will help buyers determine the best location for their furniture to maximize their space and create a natural flow within the room.
Dewald discusses some of the hottest design trends that are currently being seen in the industry. Customers really appreciate reclaimed products, especially when they tell a story. Room & Board works with one vendor who creates maple syrup, and once a tree’s lifetime supply of maple is depleted, they use the tree to make beautiful, handcrafted pieces of furniture.
Another trend right now is using furniture as art. The designers have seen a revival in American artisans crafting beautiful pieces of furniture, and more than 90 percent of the pieces carried by Room & Board are American-made.
The design team at Room & Board has also noticed a trend of customers downsizing, meaning they need creative and functional storage solutions in their home. The company meets this demand by offering a wide selection of furniture that doubles as storage space.
Room & Board also hosts a variety of events at the store that range from collection launches to informative panel sessions. On Aug. 23, the store will host a panel discussion in conjunction with the Urban Ag Council that discusses how to grow edible gardens while living in an urban environment. Then, in October, the store will host an open house for its new fall accessories line launch, and the event will include a book signing and $1,000 gift card giveaway!
