With Father’s Day just two days away, hosts Todd Schnick and Laura Craft kick this week’s Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio show off with a few ideas of how you can celebrate Dad this Sunday in Atlanta! Real Men Cook is being held at the Georgia World Congress Center on Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m., and it allows guests to sample more than 150 dishes while enjoying live music, mixing with celebrities and enjoying fun activities for children. Dads will also enjoy Father’s Day Jazz at Villa Christina. This event is outside, so don’t forget your blanket and chairs! And finally, the city is home to a multitude of breweries, like Monday Night Brewing and SweetWater Brewery. These are great options that allow you and Dad to hang out, listen to live music, learn about craft beers and try samples of the brewery’s various beers. No matter how you decide to celebrate Father’s Day, we’re sure your Dad will enjoy it!
The first guest on this week’s radio show is Eugene James, the regional director for Metrostudy, a housing research company. James shares his knowledge of the Atlanta housing market and how it’s faring so far in 2014. In the first quarter of the year, housing starts were up 28 percent compared to the same time last year. When compared on an annual basis, starts are up a whopping 55 percent from last year!
James points out that one of the most important things the housing industry does, other than build homes, is to create jobs. For every new home built, three jobs are created. Atlanta currently ranks about sixth in the nation for U.S. job creation, which helps to increase consumer confidence in the economy.
In the second quarter of 2014, James believes that we are going to continue to see the housing market trending up. However, he cautions those who are hesitant to buy that prices will continue to rise as long as demand is high and inventory is low. This means that now is the best time to buy before prices rise even higher.

Today’s second guest on the radio show is Melodie McDanal, an associate with Pike Nurseries, one of the biggest garden centers in Atlanta.
The employees at Pike Nurseries have a passion for both plants and people, and they want to help you create the perfect green space at your home. Whether your want to plant a garden, spruce up your landscaping or design a simple window boxes, they can help.
Curb appeal is a huge factor in real estate sales, and it can add a great deal of value to a home. The first look a potential buyer has of a home is very important, as they could decide they don’t like the home before ever stepping inside if the home’s curb appeal is lacking.
McDanal suggest adding color with annuals and making beds near both the mailbox and the front door to draw people in. A larger, more instant impact can be achieved by adding shrubs and trees that are matured.
Another important factor in making sure your curb appeal is top-notch is caring for your lawn. Freshly-mowed green grass helps to improve the character of a home. While maintaining the perfect lawn can seem challenging, the professionals at Pike can help. Whether you need help removing persistent weeds, picking out the right fertilizer or you just need help knowing how to care for your lawn on a daily basis, visit your local Pike nursery.
For those who need even more help with their landscaping projects, Pike Nurseries offers two services. The Pick and Plant program allows customers to come into the store and select the plants they like, and then the Pike professionals will come to the home and plant it for them. For those with slightly larger projects, Pike’s full-service landscaping service can help. From sod to hardscaping projects, they do it all.
Visit www.PikeNursery.com to learn more and find the store nearest you. You can also connect with the nursery on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
