Haiti’s Consul General, Gandy Thomas, along with Karen Hatchett from Hatchett PR, are on hand to discuss the Fourth Annual Flavors and Colors of Haiti on today’s Around Atlanta segment on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. After serving as the Haitian Consul in many Latin American countries, including Chile, Cuba, Columbia and Venezuela, Thomas was based in Orlando. From there, he continually traveled back and forth to work to open and establish the Haitian Consulate in Atlanta, which opened its doors in 2011.

Today, Consul General Thomas’ goal is to modernize the consulate while reminding people that Haiti is open for business! Haiti’s current administration has developed this slogan as the country’s new motto, and with Atlanta’s diverse culture and dynamic economy with so many Fortune 500 counties, it was a great place to locate Haiti’s Southeastern United States consulate office.

Haiti is close to the United States both physically and economically, and Consul General Thomas aims to continue to strengthen the interconnectedness. To help Atlantans better understand Haiti’s diverse and rich culture, the Consulate has brought its signature event, the Flavors and Colors of Haiti, to Atlanta. This year’s fourth celebration will showcase Haiti’s food culture, which is well-known for its mixture of influences that range from French, Spanish and Indian cuisine. The event will also highlight the colors, art, dance and fashion elements of Haiti’s culture.

The Fourth Annual Flavors and Colors of Haiti event will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 beginning at 8 p.m. at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University. The event will feature AYIKODANS, Haiti’s premier dance company, in its world-premier of Rasanable, which showcases the visionary choreography of Haitian dance and educator Jeanguy Saintus. The strong, powerful dance troupe will perform this intense contemporary modern dance that showcases Caribbean and tribal influences during the event. Tickets are $50 or $60 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Haitian and Haitian-American Student Internship Program at The Coca-Cola Company in Haiti. This new initiative provides hands-on learning opportunities for students interested in giving back to their communities and building a brighter future for Haiti.

Those interested in learning more about Haiti through first-hand experience will be excited to learn that tourism is booming in Haiti. As the country continues to recover from the devastating earthquake that struck the island in 2010, many businesses have stepped in to show their support for the island nation. Carnival Cruise Lines has agreed to create a port in Haiti, meaning vacationers will soon be able to visit the island during a Caribbean cruise. Both Hilton and Marriott are currently building new hotels on the island as well.

With its stunning combination of mountains and beaches along more than 1,000 miles of coastline, Haiti is a picturesque location with an incredible amount of rich, diverse culture and welcoming people, making this a great place for vacation, business and so much more.

The Haitian Consulate in Atlanta is located at 2911 Piedmont Road, Suite A in Buckhead. The consulate can be reached by calling 404-228-5373.
