The Associate of the Year award recognizes an associate member for his or her accomplishments in the areas of service to the industry and association, professional excellence and community involvement, and furthering the mission and goals of the association. The 2010 Associate of the Year is Mitch Hires.
Mitch Hires has been an active and engaged member of the HBA for nearly 10 years. Mitch is co-owner of Construction Resources, Inc., 39-year-old Decatur-based company that provides residential and commercial builders and remodelers and home owners with a one-stop shop for specialty construction products such as natural stone tile, countertops, fireplaces, tubs, glass and mirror products, and garage doors. Construction Resources has four showrooms throughout the metro Atlanta area, and it is the parent company of Atlanta Marble Mfg., Atlanta Kitchen, Inc., Atlanta Glass & Mirror, Inc. and Atlanta Garage Doors & Fireplaces, LLC.
Through Construction Resources, Mitch generously donated building materials and design services during construction of the HBA’s current Housing Center, and he has served on the HBA Board of Directors for the past 7 years. Mitch has also been as a member of the HBA Board’s Executive Committee for the last two years. He is always available to assist with HBA projects, and many times, he has generously loaned his company’s trucks to HBA staff to transport large and heavy materials to trades shows, awards banquets and other HBA events. Mitch has even stored HBA materials at his company’s warehouse!
Mitch has also been a dynamic supporter of HomeAid Atlanta, the HBA’s official charity. His company has generously donated and installed a combination of kitchen countertops, cultured marble vanity tops, sinks, mirrors and wire shelving for several transitional housing projects in partnership with HomeAid Atlanta over the past years, and in 2009, Mitch was named HomeAid’s Trade Partner of the Year. In addition, his company has regularly participated in two of HomeAid’s annual fundraisers, Project Playhouse® and the Fairway to Haven® Golf Classic. Mitch truly values the importance of giving back and helping others, evidenced through his company’s dedication to HomeAid Atlanta.
