Carl Owen, president and manager of New Business Development with Atlanta Gas Light, was honored with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s (HBA) Associate of the Year Award at the Greater Atlanta HBA’s Installation and Awards Program on January 25.

Owen has enjoyed an impressive 35-year career with Atlanta Gas Light. Beginning his career there in 1983, he started out as a field service representative until 1990, when he was promoted to an account executive position. The accounts he managed for 14 years included residential, senior builder and multi-family clients and projects. During his time as an account executive, he received the organization’s 2000 Flame-Keeper Award. In 2004, Owen became the president and manager of Atlanta Gas Light’s New Business Development division.

His professional and personal community involvement include membership on the boards of the Greater Atlanta HBA and the Midwest Georgia Home Builders Association, membership at Crossroads Church and involvement with Habitat for Humanity.

Prior to beginning his career at Atlanta Gas Light, Owen attended Chattahoochee Valley State University in Phenix City, Alabama, where he was a member of the school’s baseball. In 1979, he transferred to Valdosta State University to become a catcher on the school’s NCAA Division II national championship-winning baseball team. From 1980 to 1981, he enjoyed a professional baseball career with the Kansas City Royals.

Owen has been married to his wife, Donna, for 28 years. The couple has three children: Erica Owen Riddle, Tori Owen and Connor Owen, who will graduate from Georgia Tech in May of 2018. Owen also has four grandchildren: Kayden, Karsyn and Kylen Riddle and Dakota Penson.

The Associate of the Year award is presented annually to a member of the Greater Atlanta HBA in recognition of their accomplishments in the areas of service to the industry and association, professional excellence and community involvement, furthering the mission and goals of the association.
