The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association is pleased to announce that its recently chartered Atlanta chapter of the Professional Women in Building Council (PWB) won over $3,500 in scholarship awards from the National Association of Home Builders’ Professional Women in Building at the International Builders Show in Las Vegas.

The chapter was named as the top chapter for “Outstanding Membership Recruitment and Retention” and received a $400 award for first place. Since May 2012, the chapter worked on gaining 30 members through focus groups and a launch meeting in October. By the launch, the chapter had 70 members. Because of this success and creating opportunities for members, the chapter also won “The Stakes are Worth Playing: Membership Recruitment” award of $300.

Individual members were also awarded. The PWB Regional Spike awards recognize recruiters who excel with a $500 scholarship. Carol Morgan received a Spike for Region B for working several years at pursuing the goal of a council. Betsy Sheppard won Spike Rookie of the Year for being instrumental in making the council a reality. Lastly, Christine Fortenberry was named National Member Spike of the Year for working more than five years to help create the Atlanta chapter.

Morgan also received a $500 education grant. Sheppard and Donna Tyler, the chapter president, each received a $500 travel grant.

The Professional Women in Building Council represents members working in all facets of the industry as builders, developers, remodelers, trade contractors, architects, marketers, designers and mortgage brokers. The Council brings these professional women together and creates opportunities to build success.
