Today’s Around Atlanta edition of The Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio show features Jerry Brannon, media director of The Great Georgia Air Show. Jerry discusses the history of the show, its mission and some of the excitement expected during this year’s show.
The Great Georgia Air Show (GGAS) is scheduled for this weekend, Oct. 31 through Nov. 1 at the Atlanta Regional Airport in Peachtree city. This year marks the 17th year of the show, which started as a grassroots effort to support the non-profit organizations in Fayette County and is now ranked as a top 20 event by Southeastern Tourism Association. The show is fully staffed by volunteers, and this year more than 1,400 volunteers will work on the show, which strives to entertain the crowds with stunning aerial acrobatics while raising money for more than 50 non-profits in the county. To date, the GGAS has given back more than $2 million to support non-profits in its community.
This year’s show is expected to have more than 90,000 attendees and the headliners are the Navy Blue Angels, who have not performed in Georgia since 2010 and have never performed at the GGAS! For those unfamiliar with The Blue Angels, this group is the United States Navy’s flight demonstration squadron. The Blue Angels team was formed in 1946, and it is the second oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the world. Other performers include acrobatic pilots Sean D. Tucker, Michael Goulian, the Jack Links Jet Waco and the U.S. Navy Parachute team’s “Leap Frogs.”
In addition to the show, guests can enjoy food from on site vendors and a variety of activities and events around the airfield. Special reservations can be made for helicopter rides in a Huey, Warbird or Cobra helicopter. There will also be monster truck rides, a zip line, rock climbing, a “Kid Zone,” concerts and much more. Children who are celebrating Halloween this Saturday can wear their costumes to participate in the onsite costume contest and trick-or-treating. For the football fans in attendance, the Georgia and Florida game will be broadcast on the big screens beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the special event tent. This event is one that can’t be missed!
The GGAS begins at 9:15 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1 with a flag raising ceremony and events continue throughout each day.
