According to a recent report from Trulia, an online marketplace for home buyers, two in five Americans would prefer to purchase a new home as opposed to a resale home. The survey showed that 41 percent of Americans would prefer a new home, while 38 percent have no preference, as long as the features and pricing are equal.

The guarantee of modern features and having the ability to customize a home to meet personal needs and preferences were cited as two of the top reasons for buying preferences, according to the Trulia’s survey. In addition, surveyed buyers found significant appeal in knowing that new construction homes generally require less maintenance and fewer repairs.

An incredible 59 percent of Americans listed the desire to have modern features in their home as the main reason why they would prefer to purchase a new home. Some of these features include larger closets, an open floor plan, radiant floor heating, a kitchen island and pre-wiring for home electronics.
