Today’s All About Real Estate edition of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio catches up with the Executive Director of the Atlanta chapter of The National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Jessie Morado, and Tom Dwyer, 2015 president of NARI Atlanta and Harbour Towne Construction. Jessie and Tom dropped by to speak with our hosts, Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, about the 2015 NARI Atlanta Tour of Remodeled Homes.

NARI is a non-profit trade association that is made up of more than 250 professional remodelers and associates, which can include lenders, marketing firms, contractors, vendors and suppliers. NARI seeks to serve as the voice of the remodeling industry to advance and promote professionalism, products and public purpose. The organization has a code of ethics that all members must adhere to, which ensures that all consumers working with a NARI member get the utmost service, best products and are working with a quality contractor.

NARI holds a Tour of Remodeled Homes each year, and 2015 marks the sixth anniversary. There are eight homes featured on the self-guided tour, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Attendees of the tour will have a chance to see a variety of remodeling projects including basements, kitchen and bath remodels, and outdoor projects. Contractors and vendors will be located at each home to answer questions about the projects displayed.

According to Tom, kitchens and bathrooms remain the most popular home remodeling projects that NARI members complete. When thinking of resale value, Tom notes the most rewarding update is one that not many people would consider. He explains, “Remodeling Magazine does a cost versus value study each year and believe it or not, the most return on investment is given on deck and entry door remodels.” A deck and entry door remodel will garner a 141 percent ROI, basements get an 83 percent ROI and kitchen/bath remodels get a 73 or 75 percent ROI.

The purpose of the tour is two-fold: the organization wants consumers to see what projects could be possible to implement in their own home, and the tours help NARI promote itself through displays of member projects. Tom explains, “The more people know about NARI, the better the chance they will hire a NARI contractor and have a better remodeling experience.” All proceeds from the Tour of Remodeled Homes will benefit Cure Childhood Cancer, an organization dedicated to improving the care and quality of life of children with cancer.
