Florida is no longer the only retirement destination for active adult homebuyers aged 55 and older. According to the Retirement Living list of the best cities in the U.S. to retire, Atlanta ranks at No. 4 in 2021 due to the low cost of living, favorable tax rates and low cost for assisted living compared to the national average.

Active adult homebuyers are redefining what it means to retire and choosing to live in metro communities to be closer to family and friends. Atlanta features plenty of affordable housing options and heaps of amenities sure to keep active adults from all walks of life entertained.

According to U.S. News, Atlanta is ranked No. 47 on its list of the 150 best places to retire in the U.S. and also ranks highly on its list of best geriatric care, giving residents convenient access to top-ranking emergency and medical care providers in a thriving metropolitan center.

It’s no secret Atlantans have access to an abundance of green spaces in and outside metro Atlanta and enjoy numerous amenities including fine dining, major and minor league sports, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and more.

Georgia’s mild climate makes it easier for active adults to enjoy an active lifestyle. The Peach State averages 47 inches of rain per year, allowing for gorgeous fall foliage and bright spring blossoms. This makes it easy to forget Florida’s lack of seasons.
