Last year marked Academy Mortgage’s 25th year in business, and it celebrated this milestone in a very meaningful way. Employees of each Academy Mortgage branch across the country donated 25,000 hours of community service to the communities they serve.

The Atlanta branch of Academy Mortgage chose to celebrate the company’s 25th year of business by giving back to Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that builds and repairs houses all over the world using volunteer labor and donations. Building a home for a deserving family in Atlanta was a labor of love for the employees at Academy Mortgage, and they couldn’t think of a better way to have celebrated this milestone.

Since 1983, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity has built nearly 1,300 homes that have housed more than 5,000 individual family members. Families interested in receiving a home from Habitat have to possess steady income and good, but not perfect, credit. The family must put at least 250 sweat equity hours into the construction of the home, and during the first year they live in the home, they must attend 12 education classes. Once they have met these two requirements, they are able to afford and purchase a new, energy-efficient home through a no-interest 30-year mortgage.
