Just as an annual health check is important each year, checking your financial health is just as important.  Academy Mortgage recommends checking your credit report on a yearly basis for inaccuracies or misinformation, as this can affect your credit score and the ability to get a mortgage for a new home in Atlanta.

Everyone is entitled to a free credit report every 12 months, and it can be obtained by visiting websites such as AnnualCreditReport.com. From these sites, you can request your credit report from all three reporting agencies – Experian, TransUnion and Equifax.

Once you receive all three reports, you should review each one thoroughly to check them for mistakes or inaccuracies. Many common mistakes on credit reports are simple clerical errors, such as an incorrect spelling of your name or having multiple social security numbers attached to your credit file. It is also important to check all of the creditor information to make sure that what is being reported on your file is accurate. However, if you find an error, it is important to have it corrected no matter what type of mistake. Any error on your credit report can impact your credit score.

If you do find a mistake on your report, you will need to go through the credit bureau’s website to request to have those errors corrected. If more than one bureau has the error listed on your credit report, make sure to correct it with each agency. You may also be able to contact a live representative from each of the bureaus to assist you in correcting the mistakes.

Before you apply for a mortgage or a loan of any type, make sure you know what is on your credit report to prevent any complications or delays in securing your loan.
