As mid-January is rolling around, trends for this year’s kitchen and bath design are already evolving and quickly establishing popularity. The National Kitchen & Bath Association predicts that 2010 trends will be similar to last year. Traditional is still the most popular design style for kitchens at the moment. Styles, colors, coverings, finishes and materials of choice are continuing to evolve, but whites and off-whites are dominating the color category and cherry is the most popular wood. Ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles are popular kitchen flooring options and granite is the choice for countertops. Gas ranges are preferable over electric.
The kitchen trends that I hope to see gain the most momentum include:
- Maple and Alder cabinetry
- Pull-out kitchen faucets
- Under-counter refrigerator drawers
- Dishwasher drawers for small loads
Bathrooms are also remaining traditional with color concentrations of beiges and off-whites. Vanities complete with granite surfaces and simple, under-mount sink options.
Bathroom designs that are most promising include:
- Marble vanity tops
- Integrated sink tops, drop-in sinks, vessel sinks and pedestal sinks
