Dee LaPrairie suffered an accident in 2005 that left her paralyzed in her right leg. So, her husband Dave set out on a personal journey to find the perfect home that could accommodate his wife who uses a scooter to get around. After an extensive search that took more than two years, the LaPrairie’s came across the Villas at Blackberry Run in Seven Hills in the summer of 2007. Although their search at the time extended as far as Alabama and Florida, it turned out that the community just five miles from their residence of 17 years was the perfect fit.

“After walking through the Windsor model (3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms) and talking to the builder, we quickly realized that he would accommodate our needs and let us make changes that we wanted,” said Dave LaPrairie. “When we found this home it made perfect sense. We definitely liked the house better than anything else we had seen and we were also able to stay at our church, keep all of our friends and be near our children and granddaughter.”

Changes the LaPrairie’s made to the Windsor floorplan included alterations to the kitchen, dining room area and cabinets. Modifications were necessary for his wife to enjoy life again says Dave, a former engineer. They were able to put a pantry cabinet near the refrigerator so that Dee could have easy access to both. The changes also created more space in order for her to have good access in and out of all areas of the home.

Perhaps Dee’s favorite feature is the courtyard area where she has planted flowers, which according to Dave was no easy task for her. She also recently planted tomatoes. The LaPrairies have also enjoyed the community’s wide tree-shaded sidewalks and amenities that include a zero entry pool and an elegant private clubhouse for planned activities.
