Vesmont’s Newest South DeKalb Community Featured in AJC
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently gave readers insight into a new mixed-use development located at the corner of Panola Road and Covington Highway in south DeKalb County. Developed by Atlanta-based Vesmont, LC, Lafayette Station will include 83 single-family homes, 91 townhomes and 156 condominiums. In addition, there will be retail stores, offices and a two-story restaurant located in a town square. Written by Paul Donsky, the article discusses the feel of the community which will be similar to a New Orleans style with balconies, porches and wide sidewalks which are meant to encourage residents to interact with one another.
DeKalb commissioners recently approved a zoning change to the 36-acre property to allow a mix of uses. Lawrence Kasmen, a prinicipal of Vesmont, LC, said that the idea for Lafayette Station came in part because residents in the nearby vicinity have been asking for more sophisticated housing, shopping and entertainment options. Construction on the community should start in the spring of 2008.
