Two Atlanta Communities Honored as Livable Communities
AARP and NAHB recently presented the first livable communities awards. Two Atlanta communities were amongst the initial five recipients. They are Roy Wendt with Wendt Builders for Olde Town Grayson in Snellville, Ga. and Vicki Lundy Wilbon with the Integral Group for College Town at West End in Atlanta.
The Livable Communities awards were created by AARP and NAHB to spotlight builders, remodelers and developers who build homes and communities with features that improve everyday comfort, safety and personal independence for their residents.
Olde Town Grayson is located in Snellville, Ga near Atlanta. This 100 home community features low-maintenance, cottage style homes that are built to be safe, comfortable and accessible. Homes feature no-step entries, open floor plans, task lighting, kitchen drawers instead of cabinets, barrier free showers in the master and as much natural light as possible.
College Town at West End is built in a historic district as a mixed-use, mixed-income community. It features a building for seniors with community spaces such as a library, game room, green space with water feature and a lounge.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 Livable Communities Awards. The entry deadline is June 6, 2008. Livable Communities Guidelines and entry form.
