Tornado Tax Extensions
The Tornados that whirled through Atlanta in March, damaging the downtown area, many outlying areas of the Atlanta Metro area and weighing heavily on the Atlanta economy, have paved the way for many metro-Atlanta counties to get an extension on filing their tax returns.
If you live in Bartow, Burke, DeKalb, Floyd, Fulton, Jefferson or Polk your tax deadline has been extended to May 19, 2008. Because of the March tornadoes and storms, these seven counties have been declared a Presidential disaster area allowing for the tax extension. When filing your return, be sure to write “March 2008 Tornado” across the top of any forms submitted to the department. This extension is fantastic news for anyone that has to owes money to the government this year because you have a full extra month to get it in. Even better, you don’t necessarily have to live in one of the seven counties to receive the extension: if the person you hire to do your taxes lives in one of these seven counties, then you can take advantage of the extension, too.
