Tips For Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

tips for setting goals and keeping themAre you sticking to the New Year’s Resolutions you made last month? If you’re still going strong but need a little encouragement, here are some tips from Keystone Homes.

1. Write down your resolutions and keep them with you at all times. Think of your resolutions as goals that you want to accomplish. For example, if your resolution is to find a new home in Grovetown, Ga., write that down and read it aloud to yourself several times a day. This act reinforces your desire in your subconscious, and keeps you focused so you can achieve your goals.

2. Set small, realistic goals. Don’t overwhelm yourself by setting huge, unrealistic goals. Simply stating that you’re going to buy a home is daunting. Break that goal into several smaller ones, such as “visit 3 home builder websites” or “gather bank records and financial statements to get pre-qualified for home loan.”

3. Be consistent. Even if you only spend as little as 15 minutes each day working toward your goal, the key is consistency. Consistency creates new habits, which will help turn your goal into reality.

4. Reward yourself along the way. Positive reinforcement keeps people motivated, so give yourself a little reward as your make progress. If your ultimate goal is to lose 50 pounds, buy some new clothes in a smaller size when you lose 10 or 15 pounds.

5. Set a time frame. Having a goal without a time frame is really just a dream. Setting a deadline can help keep you motivated and focused on what needs to be accomplished.

6. Think positively! Having a positive mental attitude makes all the difference in the world. Keep telling yourself you can do it, and you can!

7. Forget perfection. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t hit your goals perfectly, or by the date you set. The point is to keep trying! No one’s perfect. As long as you’re working toward your goals, it won’t be long before you finally achieve them.
