Third Annual Cherry Blossom Festival Returns to Atlanta

Third Annual Cherry Blossom Festival Returns to AtlantaThe Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival is the perfect place to enjoy the early bloomings of the upcoming spring season with family and friends. Brian Borden, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Brookhaven, joins the Around Atlanta edition of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio to discuss the return of an annual event at Blackburn Park with co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 25 and 26, guests will enjoy hundreds of Cherry Blossoms as well as a number of other fun activities.

He said that in 2014, the city of Brookhaven, Georgia planted 240 Yoshino and Kwanzan cherry trees, and since then, the town has gathered yearly to enjoy the beauty of the trees in bloom.  On March 25 and 26, from 10 am to 6 pm, guests can spend a day or two celebrating spring at the third annual Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival in Blackburn Park.

Blackburn Park is an ideal setting for spring thanks to 240 Yoshino and Kwanzan being planted in 2014. Set on 49 acres of green, and conveniently located off I-285 at the Ashford Dunwoody Exit, Borden said that guests of the festival could park free at one of several locations, then ride the free shuttle to the park, where admission is free. The price tag alone is reason enough to attend.

Nevertheless, do not go just because it is free. The event organizers packed the two-day festival full of something for everyone, according to Borden. Early risers and fitness buffs can kick off the festival Saturday morning with a 5K or 1-mile fun run. After that, it is party time. Enjoy a day of food, fun, music, rides and more.

If the weather cooperates, blooming trees will shade guests while strolling to the Children’s Village, newly expanded with rides, face painting, superheroes and more. Along the way, they can stop at one of the many booths where local artisans display their handiwork. Borden explained that music fans will not want to miss the lineup that includes reggae, pop, R&B and country artists.  Dogs can even participate in the fun at the Pet Parade or the agility course. Check out the classic car show and relax in the calm of a weekend afternoon.
