For current Talley Street homeowners and future homeowners, the City of Decatur offers a chance for residents to get to know the city, the people behind the city and how the city works. It’s called Decatur 101, A Great Way to Get to Know Your City!

New classes for Decatur 101 begin in March of 2010. The goals of the program are to increase the number of informed and involved citizens in Decatur and to “put a face” on local government, making them more accessible to the community. The topics covered include: history, development, budget, boards and commissions, and volunteer opportunities. The classes are free and only open to the first 35 applicants. Choose a morning class from 10 am to noon or an evening class from 7 pm to 9 pm. Optional tours of the city are held 30 minutes prior to each class at 9:30 am for the morning class and 6:30 pm for the evening class. The classes are held in different city buildings including the fire station, public works building, city hall, and the recreation center.
