Sterling on the Lake Wins Gold for Best Community Service

Atlanta new homes awardsThe Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council congratulates Newland Communities for winning a Gold OBIE for Best Community Service for the Harvest Balloon Festival at Sterling on the Lake.

The Harvest Balloon Festival benefited the National Military Family Association and Challenged Child & Friends. As our country continues to face difficult economic times, we know there are thousands of children and families who need help more than ever. To that end, hundreds volunteered their time and energy to hold the fifth annual fall festival at Sterling on the Lake. Last year Newland Communities did something a little different, they brought in hot air balloons and changed the festival’s title to the Harvest Balloon Festival. The newly revitalized event gave people across the country a fun-filled day with hot air balloon rides, pumpkin carving, music and family friendly activities. Since their first festival, they have raised more than $75,000 for kids in need. Proceeds from the event went to two extraordinary charities – Challenged Child and Friends, Inc., serving children with disabilities through educational, therapeutic, nursing and family counseling services and the National Military Family Association. Their Operation Purple camps provide children with a break from wartime tension present at home. The event was very successful and raised nearly $23,000 and attracted more than 7,500 people in one weekend thus increasing attendance more than 400% from the previous year.
