Spring Maintenance Tips from Monte Hewett

It’s important to properly upkeep your house, to ensure it will continue to run smoothly year-round. One of the best way to do this is by using preventative measures and not waiting until something is broken. Now that Spring is upon us, a few common things to have checked-up are:

• HVAC System - Pretty soon, especially with the sweltering Georgia summers, the AC is going to be working over-time. So, right now is a great time to get a professional to check it out and make sure that nothing will cause you any trouble through the coming months.
• Add or Replace Worn Weather-stripping around Doors and Windows - this will help to make sure your house is properly sealed, which can save you a bunch on money on your power bills
• Replace Loose Shingles - Really inspect your roof, especially around the chimney or vent pipes. Make sure everything is watertight and that no bricks or shingles are missing. If there are, replace and repair. This is also a good time to clean out your gutters and trim any tree limbs that hang over or touch the roof. Roof work can be expensive, so you want to do whatever you can to prevent a catastrophe.
• Take Care of Your Deck - If your deck is over 2 years old, apply another coat of sealer.
• Check the Foundation of Your House and the Siding for Cracks or Gap

I know some of these are dreaded chores, but they are all important for proper upkeep of your home. Checking these now can prevent any serious problems later in the summer, when it is extremely too hot to work outside or extremely expensive to hire someone else to do it.
