All gas appliances in the home will be tested for excessive levels of carbon monoxide, and new stoves, HVAC and hot water heaters will be installed in homes that have dangerous levels. Exhaust fans are also typically installed in any full bath without a window. The program is paid for through grants from the federal Department of Energy (DOE) and repairs are determined by guidelines DOE has established.
