Seville’s Druid Hills Remodeling Project Featured in McGraw-Hill Construction Report
The award-winning Druid Hills remodeling project by Carl Seville of Seville Consulting is featured in a recent SmartMarket Report by McGraw-Hill Construction. Entitled The Green Homeowner: Attitudes & Preferences for Remodeling and Buying Green Homes”, the report features the remodeling project at the 1918 bungalow, detailing information about the house, an overview of the work, green building features and performance. The article notes that “his (Seville’s) results have been impressive, seeing utility bills lower than homes half the size, improved indoor air quality with lower levels of dust, and reduction of sound pollution.”
Seville, founder and former vice president of SawHorse Inc. of Atlanta for 25 years, enlisted the help of SawHorse with the project. Earlier this year, the Druid Hills project, which is in the historic district of the Druid Hills area of Metro Atlanta, received an Honorable Mention in the Green Remodeling, over $250,000, category of the 2007 Remodeling Design Awards, sponsored by REMODELING Magazine and Marvin Windows. Seville also received the Homes Across America Integrated Design Award for “extensive commitment to resource efficiency” for the bungalow. Homes that are designed and constructed with consideration to the interactions of each component, all-around emphasis on resource efficiency, and using a team approach are designated as an “Integrated Design”, according to a Homes Across America spokesperson. In addition, the Druid Hills home was named “Remodeled Home of the Year” at the National Association of Home Builders’ 8th Annual National Green Building Conference, was the featured showcase house at the 2005 Southern Building Show in Atlanta, and was also a finalist in the residential category of the 2006 Environmental Design and Construction Magazine Excellence in Design Awards. Also, PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing) conducted a case study on the project and published it on the Tech Practices page of its PATHnet internet site.
Seville, who lives and has his office in Decatur, operates Seville Consulting, a company with the goal of helping homeowners and building professionals create healthy, efficient, and durable buildings by incorporating sustainable practices into their homes and businesses.
