Seville’s Druid Hills Project Continues To Gain Recognition
Carl Seville of Seville Consulting, Decatur, has continued to receive recognition for his sustainable renovation and expansion of a 1918 brick bungalow in the historic district of the Druid Hills area of Metro Atlanta. The latest award was the Homes Across America Integrated Design Award for “extensive commitment to resource efficiency”. Homes that are designed and constructed with consideration to the interactions of each component, all-around emphasis on resource efficiency, and using a team approach are designated as an “Integrated Design”, according to a Homes Across America spokesperson. In carrying out this project, Seville, who was the founder and who served as vice president of SawHorse Inc. of Atlanta for 25 years, enlisted the help of SawHorse, which had become extensively involved in EarthCraft renovations during his final years with the company.
Last year, the Druid Hills home was named “Remodeled Home of the Year” at the National Association of Home Builders’ 8th Annual National Green Building Conference in Albuquerque, N. M., where Seville also presented a case study on the green remodeling project. The home, which was featured at the 2005 Southern Building Show in Atlanta, was also a finalist in the residential category of the 2006 Environmental Design and Construction Magazine Excellence in Design Awards. In addition, PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing) conducted a case study on the project and published it on the Tech Practices page of its PATHnet internet site. Stories featuring the project have appeared in Qualified Remodeler magazine, New Life Journal, HGTV and Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine.
